The College of New Jersey - Gems and Traditions
TCNJ offers transportation off campus via “The Loop”. Loop schedules are placed on almost every bulletin board in the dorms since the schedule changes monthly. It’s not the most efficient way of getting off campus, but when traveling with a large group of people it certainly helps. Some places the Loop takes you are ShopRite, Quakerbridge Mall, Olive Garden, Joe’s Crab Shack, Red Lobster, and practically another other restaurant on Rt 1.
In addition to those fun places to eat, there’s really not a lot to do in the town of Ewing itself…But if you visited the school you might have been able to guess that. There is a 7-11 within walking distance from the school, and local transportation that will take you into Trenton. But here are a few places that are great to visit if you can get someone who has a car.
7-11: Walk down Pennington to get a delicious Slurpee or disgusting hotdog. Your choice.
Slocums Bowling Alley: A tiny alley on Green Lane, kinda within
walking distance from the school. It’s got a few lanes and they have student
discount nights.
Princeton: Downtown Princeton has tons of shops, stores, eateries, scenery,
an independent movie theater, and a statue of a man reading a newspaper on
a bench. It’s about a 15-20 minute drive from campus.
New Hope, PA: About 30min outside of campus, New Hope is a great shopping
town with a lot of places to eat, also with nice atmosphere. Definitely a
great place to spend a sunny day.
ALSO: Movie Nights in Tdubs: Look for flyers and calendars from CUB as every month fairly recent movies are shown in the Travers/Wolfe link. Movies are free, and it’s a great way to get out of your room without going too far.
The biggest traditions are Welcome Week, which you are currently or have recently participated in, and “The Standing Ovation.” We here at TCNJ work hard for the money ... erm … education. So we deserve a little recognition every now and then, right? Whenever you feel the need, simply yell out “I WANT A STANDING OVATION!” It is customary that the person to your immediate right and the person to your immediate left lift you on their shoulders, and everyone else applause you. A lot of people hesitate to take advantage of this opportunity, but next time you’re in Eickhoff, give it a try!
