The Best Palces to Study at Johnson & Wales
Apparently you're expected to take time from all the stuff going on at college
to study. Unless your roommate is completely silent, you have sworn off IM
and your neighbors are absent, you’re going to have a difficult time getting
actual studying done in your own room. As a result, you will have to seek
out alternative study spots, and there are some good ones. When the studying
just ain’t happening, the Daily Jolt’s
QuadRiot is a great source of procrastination because sometimes you need
to go away to come back. In the mean time here are some great places to
cram!
- The Downtown Courtyard: The courtyard has a beautiful
view and is also a nice place to plop down and read. Not the most productive
spot on campus, but maybe the most enjoyable way to study. You won't feel
like you're wasting a gorgeous day sitting inside studying. Bring a blanket
and you can enjoy a nice spring day and study at the same time. Just watch
out for the Frisbees.
- Learning Center: It may not exactly be studying, but
this resource can help you with those constant grammar mistakes that cause
teachers to cry themselves to sleep. Tutoring for most first year classes
is available so take advantage if you have the desire to skip some classes
since they seem pretty easy and it’s always good brownie points with a
teacher if you’ve mentioned that you went to the learning center.
- Cafe Commons: Find this little place inside the Harborside
Academic Center and try to score yourself a seat. It may not be free of
the distractions but it does provide brain fuel to keep your body movin.
- The Library: Wait really? People study in the library?
YES, especially when there are too many distractions around your hall.
Take the short walk to the library, clear your head, and be prepared for
hours upon hours of painful reading because you decided to push your snooze
button one too many times.
- Singles Room: There are many singles rooms spread around
campus. Chances are you will make a lot of friends your first year, a
lot of which will have different schedules from you. If you have a particularly
annoying roommate or are not able to study in your room, go to a friend's
single and try to study there.
