The Best Places to Study at Tulane
With everything going on your first year, you’ve still gotta make time
to study and hopefully make the grade. Your room is often a tough place
in which to get said studying done, so we’ve provided you with some on and
off campus alternatives. Of course, when the studying just ain’t happenin’,
the Daily Jolt’s QuadRiot is
a great source of procrastination because sometimes you need to go away to
come back. In the mean time here are some great places to cram!
- Dorm/Floor Study Room: Got serious work to do? Try your
floor's study room. Turn your back to the window and avoid bringing your
laptop for maximum work potential. Headphones can help you be antisocial,
but the study room is a great place to make new friends.
- Warren Roof: Live in Warren or know someone that does?
The sun roof can be a nice place to study during the day and catch some
sun or at night to get away from everyone.
- The Library: Wait really? People study in the library?
YES, especially when you have 9 of them! Pick and choose from this list,
one has to meet your fancy. Howard Tilton offers some great study rooms,
but the library scene can sometimes be distracting, especially during Greek
mandatory study hours. The Vorhoff
Library has consistently been voted as having the most comfy couches
on campus, so could be helpful or debilitating for studying.
- The Quad: The quad is a great place to find a lovely
little grass spot to plot down on and read. Not the most productive spot
on campus, but maybe the most enjoyable way to study. You won't feel like
you're wasting a gorgeous day sitting inside studying. Bring a blanket
and you can enjoy a nice spring day and study at the same time. Pick and
choose from the UC Quad, Newcomb Quad, JL Quad, or the Academic Quad. There
is also the little known secret quad between Butler, Mayer and Warren,
although beware of sunbathers on sunny days. Brown Quad still remains brown,
so probably not ideal. Rumor has it that Mo-Quad is nice and green again,
so that maybe ideal for those of you living in Monroe.
- PJ’s: Always a popular study spot from open until close.
You can still utilize the balcony after hours for your study needs, although
the light may be trying.
- B-School: If
you or a friend are a student at the B-School, you’ve got 24 hour access
to their study rooms and lounge areas.
- Audubon Park: Right across St. Charles from campus,
this famous park is home to many giant oak trees, runners, and lots of
grassy area to stretch out and get some work done.
- Z'otz Coffee House: Library too stuffy? Dorm room not
inspiring you? Maybe this coffee house on 8210 Oak St. will ignite your
intellectual spirits. It’s open 24/7 and allows smoking inside and out.
Caffeine and free wi fi make this place the mecca for all nighters.
- Puccino’s – This Italian coffee place was once open
24/7, but has since cut back to simply late night. Whether the wi fi is
free or not is debatable, but this place is a happenin’ spot for late night
studiers.
