Staying in touch with people can be difficult in college. Instant Messaging is great, but your parents might not be so computer-savvy. And, you'll probably have one friend who just isn't on IM all the time (strange, we know). Believe us, you don't want your folks yelling at you or threatening to cut you off because, "You never call home!" Nor do you want your family calling you on a Friday night after you’ve spent the last couple of hours at The Boot happy hour. Here are some little things you can do to keep in touch with your parents and friends, wherever they might be:

• Send pictures of your room when it's all pretty after you've moved in
• Call home while standing in front of one of New Orleans many webcams and wave at them through the web cam
• Send pictures of you and your roommate/friend in front of famous New Orleans landmarks, like Jackson Square in the French Quarter  
• Send a postcard to family members or friends
• Take your laptop to the dining hall have a long distance lunch date via AIM with your parents/sibling/friend back home/friend at another school
• Bring home a New Orleans souvenir
• Buy your family Tulane sweatshirts or a small stuffed animal wearing a “Somebody at Tulane loves me” t-shirt
• Buy your parents “Tulane Mom” and “Tulane Dad” rub ons to stick on their car windows
